Kayzu woke in a panic, every muscle twitching him awake and alerting him to a presence just to his right. He reacted as though under attack, immediately shifting into his feral form and letting out a throaty hiss, but quickly stopped as a searing pain ignited his face when he changed his expression.

"You might want to head to the doctor's place; to check on that knife sticking out of your face." A melodious voice chimed from his right side, confirming there was indeed reason to be on guard. At first the being swam through is vision like it was liquid, but soon solidified into the form of the thylacine thief. Anger boiled in his veins, but the mere act of snarling brought him a burning sting. The fennec-lion put a paw to his cheek and was met by cold metal jutting from just below his eye. His heart skipped a beat as he barely tapped around the swollen wound, feeling his own weapon buried into his skin.

"Do you want to gawk, or sit and talk? I'm busy, you see, I don't have all day. I have another round of games to play." The Thief rolled onto his side, completely unthreatened by the young man.

"A-another? I can still g-get Eli back?" Kayzu chose his words carefully as to not stretch his face too much when he spoke. Quickly snuffing out his glimmer of hope, the shifter let out a guttural laugh, his jaw opening far wider than expected to allow every note of smug condescension to ring in the boy's ears.

"Do you see your opponent's blood on the ground? No, my child, your brother's health shall not be lost and found. You're free to try and rejoin him. Just beware the mist, I hear it's quite grim."

The fennec-lion furrowed his brows and dug his claws into the dirt. "You bastard." He said through his clenched teeth.

"Go or stay, I don't care either way. Only know the woods is a long walk. As for the hotel, you'll find the doors now unlock." The Thief began to take on a winged form, but stopped mid-shift as the young man took a lunge at him. With ages of honed reflexes, the thief stepped to the side and took hold of the handle of the imbedded knife in his mouth. Kayzu couldn't suppress a shout and the welling up of tears in his eyes as he could feel fresh blood drip from the torn wound. He stood still and The Thief's whispered voice sent chills down his spine.

"Even if it seems all formality, do not take for granted my hospitality."

The shifter released Kayzu who instantly jumped back and scowled. A moment passed between the two with nothing but silent words being exchanged, expressions alone speaking. The fennec-lion's shoulders tense and fur prickled, the edges of his eyes red; the thylacine's posture slightly hunched and ears swiveling. Finally The Thief spoke, morphing into a bird before taking off.

"Curse me all you want, decry and damn, but I'm not the demon you think I am."

The young man couldn't resist the urge to leap after the winged thief, but the shifter proved quicker than his outstretched claws. He winced as he landed on his cut paw, looking to find new speckles of blood on the ground. A few tears raced down his face before he turned and padded over to the hotel's front doors. If he was going to witness his brother's last moments, he was at least going home with what he left with. The lobby felt less densely populated than when he arrived, but Kayzu didn't take the time to think about it. He was only concerned with getting to his room and leaving the place for good.

To his surprise, he found his room's door slightly ajar. The young man raced in on a flock of crows rearranging the bedsheets and gave them a sullen glare as a sign to leave. One amongst the group called out to him.

"Don't track blood all over the floors, we just cleaned it!" His mates all cawed in agreement.

"Whatever. I'm leaving anyway." Kayzu shifted into his anthro form and gathered his belongings that had been shoved to the corner of the room. He slung his backpack across his shoulders, careful to keep his expressions minimal even as his hand stung from the cut.

"Hey, did your opponent do that to ya, or are face-knifes just a new punk trend?" Another crow squawked, sending the flock into another fit of caws.

The young man didn't dignify them with a scowl, but his attention was instead drawn to his single window. Nothing outside had changed, the trees stood gauntly in their place, what caught his eye was the crack in the glass that had reappeared. However, this time, it had grown and a few shards seemed missing. He felt a surge of pain from his palm snap him out of his daze and took a quick glance at his hand. He'd slammed into that glass just this morning, but it was solid. How could it be more broken now?

Then he saw it. Little flecks of glass reflecting in his cut.

"Were you leaving cause we got a job to do, buddy!" One corvid fluffed up his feathers with a huff.

"Y-yea..."
No Kay, don't do it! NO, KAY. DON'T GO TOWARDS THE MIST.

Hm, quite a nice twist on the Thief! Poor Kayzu D: It's never fun to have a knife in your face. Especially when your nose itches
